On Saturday May the 2nd Tim and Dee will be going to Coldspring, Texas for a 30 mile road race and we would REALLY like some others to join us. Eric??? Randy??? Anyone??? The rest of the edgeites will be meeting at Timothy’s at 9:00am for a long fast paced ride. BTW I hate you guys!!! :) (see 2 laps in Ashdown). On Sunday May 3rd, I am trying to see if anyone would want to go to Rocky Mount, La. to preview the course there. We would meet at Crown Leasing at 2:30 then drive to Rocky Mount about 62 miles away. Then, we would ride two laps of 16 miles each for 32 miles previewing the very technical course there. Also, you do NOT have to race all the races at the Rocky Mount Stage Race. You have to finish the previous stage to race the next one. On Saturday May 16th there is the 28 mile road race in the morning and a 5 mile time trial in the afternoon. On Sunday there is a 30 minute criterium. This is an awesome opportunity to have a full team show up for at least the Road Race. Please post a comment to let me know if you would be interested in going to Rocky Mount!!!

Thanks

Dee

Lap One

Sunday afternoon was yet another classic ride in the short history of Edge City Cycling.  Nine edgites rolled out of the Wal-Mart parking lot at 3:10 and headed to the Little River Challenge road circuit; a 12 mile loop through a very rural area that makes up for it’s lack or traffic with an abundance of wind.  Dee intended to keep the pace slow on the first lap in an effort to help everyone learn the course and avoid any wrong turns, a tactic that proved totally ineffective on Tim, but more on that later.  As we were nearing the only semi-dangerous turn of the course, just about a half-mile from the official start of lap 1, I foolishly chose to hydrate my body.   As I take a long swig on my bottle, Dee starts calling out “slowing, slowing, stop”.  This caused me quite a bit of consternation as I was in no position to stop with just one hand on my bars.  I quickly deposited my bottle, found my brakes and came to a halt only to see everyone accelerating into the corner in response to Dee’s call of “clear”.  This left me a little bit off the back as we started onto the official beginning of lap 1.  Since I had to hurry to catch up I decided to say “thanks” in my own special way by flying by the pack and seeing if I could elicit a response from our host.  Dee quickly jumped on my wheel and pulled alongside me to see what in the #@$% I was trying to do.  I looked at him and smiled and fell back into the pack.

Starting April 28th, 2009 our weekly riding schedule will remain exactly the same unless we have a race!! This will hopefully make things easier for everyone to know where we are meeting and what to expect. It will also eliminate the need to daily check the website to find out what’s going on. Hope to see you guys there!!!!!:)

Apr
25.

If you want to put in a good strong effort on Sunday, then come to Ashdown @ 3:00pm at the Wal-Mart. We will ride for 30+ miles with about 24 miles of racing on the same course as this years Little River Challenge!!! Please Post a comment if you plan on attending. I sure would hate to get everything set up to race myself!!!

Well, Randy asked for it, so here goes. . . all the details on the race this last weekend.  We went in with the plan of me working for Dee to get him on the podium in the final sprint.  That all changed once we arrived at the course and saw the terrain.  Directly across from the Start/Finish was a 7% gradient that would determine the days results.  Still, riding around before the race, we saw no one that looked like they had been in a USCF event before.  That all changed once we arrived at the starting line.

From the line, I marked two guys that looked strong enough to win.  The announcer encouraged us to do a neutral start until we were through the first 180 degree turn that was wet from the sudden, unforecast, rain that started about two minutes before we did.  The neutral rollout lasted instead about 25 feet.

So, Dee and I pulled into town just after midnight last night after a disappointing day in Decatur, Tx.  Dee is not going to make the Sunday ride.  I see that we are scheduled to meet at Spring Lake Park at 2:30 today for sprinting practice.  Eric and Arley both missed yesterday’s ride at the Ivan Mukasa with illness issues, so I am assuming they are not going to be there.

Is anyone going to be at SLP for today’s ride?  Is someone in charge of the sprinting practice, or do we at least know what/how we are practicing sprints?  Just checking.

BTW, Charles Allen cam home with a 3rd place in the Men’s 60+ . . . AND he lost his chain on a critical climb.  Nice ride Charles.

Dee found this race in Cold Spring, TX coming up on Saturday May 3rd. I cant race this weekend so I am planning on doing this race with Dee, as he will be down that way for a family function. The Cat 5 is a 30 mile road race and I think the Cat 4 is a 45 mile race. The Cat 5 is at 11:00 on Saturday so it would be easy to make it there in plenty of time. Is there anyone else who would be interested in doing this race, please reply if this interests you, thanks!
Tim

Someone posted a question last week requesting people to announce their intentions for the USCF race in Decatur this weekend.  I am going to go and ride in the 6:00pm Cat 5 race, and if Jason is going to the Cat 4/5 35+ race, then I will be riding that at 4:15pm.  Dee and Charles are the only people that have responded.  I will sign up as soon as I know whether or not I’m riding the Cat 4/5 for Jason.  I know some other Edgites are waiting to see what everyone else is doing but the registration closes Friday and the field is limited in these races so we need to register quickly  ( See Charles’ comment on the previous post).  The Cat 5 race is only 30 minutes plus two laps so anybody that rides regularly with Team Edge should be able to handle the pace.  The pack will be larger in these races so it will be easier to stay connected than on our normal Sunday rides.

I am committed to helping Jason in the 4/5 and Dee in the 5 so I am going to be racing to either support them or create trouble for other people.  Any other Edgites that make the Cat5 can help make sure Dee is protected for the sprint.  It should be a blast.  If you would prefer to be a protected rider then email Dee and strategize away.   Please post a comment and let us know who’s going.

We need to get an idea of who all is planning on going to the Ivan Mukasa this coming Saturday. This is the first opportunity Team Edge has to compete in a sanctioned circuit race and it would be good to see how we match up with some pretty good teams. I know it is early in the season, but we need to try and make a good showing. I’m excited about the potential of our team and we need to jump on in and get after it. Here is the link to the race website where you can register.

Remember, you must have your license for this race. You can buy a one day license at the race, or you can go to www.usacycling.org and buy your 1 year license and associate with Edge City Cycling.

If you plan on racing, please comment back and let us know. GO TEAM EDGE!!!

I can’t help but notice that we have a sprint practice scheduled for Sunday and I wanted to verify that there was actually going to be someone there.  I know Sunday is the traditional celebration of the Ishtar Festival and so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t sitting at Crown Leasing by myself thinking . . . “Well it IS Easter, maybe that’s why nobody’s here.”  So . . . are folks coming out?  Post a comment to let us know whether or not to expect you this Sunday at 2:30.
